This is a real CROC

I came across the news about the discovery of a huge crocodile (dead) - weighing about 1 tonne in Tanjung Agas, Port Dickson two days ago. Here's the link from the Kosmo newspaper on this shocking discovery :

Kosmo! Online - Negara

BUT, let me tell you that it is not a surprise that a crocodile or even crocodiles to be found within this area - Tanjung Agas.

Tanjung Agas is located at the far south of Port Dickson that adjoin to the state of Malacca - specifically Kuala Linggi. The crocodile that was found most probably (I'm 99.9% confidence) has came from the Linggi River (Sg Linggi). The poor croc might have lost her (or is it his??) ways in the river, which connected to the Straits of Malacca (Selat Melaka).

I'd chances before to take boat cruise along the Linggi River and could see many crocodiles laying on the river banks. One of my friend claimes that he saw a crocodile as big as a Kancil (the car - not the animal) while fishing in Linggi River. Another friend of mine claimed that there is a shaman in Linggi who can 'call' for crocodile to come if he wants to feed the crocodile.

The Linggi River is well known a long long time ago for it crocs. This river is connected to Timun River (Sungai Timun) in Rembau, which is popular for its fireflies.
Linggi River is also a popular spot for those who loves fishing.

So, the next time you want to go for river fishing, choose Linggi River, for its naturality and you might be lucky to see some crocs...but only if you dare to take a boat ride there...CRIKEY!!!

<link rel='related' href='http://www.kosmo.com.my/kosmo/content.asp?y=2010&dt=0803&pub=Kosmo&sec=Negara&pg=ne_02.htm' title='Aghh!!! What I meant is that the formal name of some area is hardly known compared to the 'informal' name of these spots.

One of the common terms to identify the places in PD is in terms of Batu or Miles. For example, a place located about five miles from the bordereline of PD will be known as Batu 5 (Batu Lima or 5th Mile). In PD, I think the most popular location are these places :

Batu 4 (Batu Empat or 4th Mile)

- this is where the famous Saturday's night market takes place in PD. If you enter PD using the PLUS Highway and exit on the second exit (next after Lukut), you'll enter PD at this location. One of the popular apartments you can find here is the Bayu Beach Resort. You'll also find the Army Museum on your left towards reaching the T-Junction to enter PD.

Batu 8 (Batu Lapan or 8th Mile)

- this is where Telok Kemang is located. Telok Kemang is a popular family beaches recreation area, just like Teluk Chempedak in Kuantan, Pahang. Kemang Square (Dataran Kemang) is where most programmes, concerts, new year and Merdeka (Independence Day) countdown are held. If you are entering PD using the PLUS Highway and would like to go to Telok Kemang, just move straight until the end of the highway. You'll meet with a roundabout, take the first left turn at the roundabout and move about 2km and you'll see Dataran Kemang on your right.

Batu 1 (Batu Satu or 1st Mile)

- this is the location of PD town. a small town more than enough to accommodate the needs of the local, but you'll find it quite hectic with traffics during peak seasons. But sometimes, Batu 1 can also be referred to the location immediately after the Bypass Road (the road that you use to skip the PD town and move onwards to Batu 2 and so forth when you enter from Lukut town).

So, these are the three great miles in PD. Now, you need not too worry if you've lost your way in PD and if the locals tell you to go to 'Batu here or Batu there', you'll not be confused anymore, I hope.

The Governance of Port Dickson

Before you make any decision to make Port Dickson as your second home or buying an apartment or a house in PD, it is important for you to understand the structure of the local authorities and should I say, governance for this district. Why is it important? Because you're putting out your money to pay for taxes and services - it is part of your investment BUT at the same time it will become a burden if the services given is not to your expectation.

I will not go in depth in explaining the structure of the local governance in this district. For a start, I'd like you to understand that there are 2 main authorities in this district. They are :

1) The District and Land Office of Port Dickson
(known in Malay as Pejabat Daerah & Tanah PD)
2) The Municipal Council of Port Dickson (Majlis Perbandaran PD)

The first authority (District & Land Office) is responsible for the overall aspects of the district - the development, land matters, safety, social development, etc. This authority is subject to report to the State Government and whatever you've paid in terms of Quit Rent, etc. will be channeled as revenue for the state of Negeri Sembilan.

The second authority (Municipal Council) is responsible to serve within its jurisdiction areas which usually encompasses township areas but subject to the area being gazetted under the law. To serve here means to give services such as garbage collection, roadworks, etc. However, at most times both authorities will work together to administrate the district. Unlike the District and Land Office, the revenue collected by the Municipal Council like assessment tax, summons collection and compound will belongs to itself, although periodically they still have to report it at the state level.

So, when you bought a house in PD, you will be subject to two 'premier' taxes to be paid - that is Quit Rent for your land to the District and Land Office AND Assessment Tax for your house to the Municipal Council. Rates for the land has just being increased in 2004, if I'm not mistaken and will have to be reviewed every ten years, while the rate for Assessment Tax can be increased from time to time by the Municipal Council (subject to public hearing etc.)

And, if you bought a house in village area or buy a piece of land to build one, please don't expect the Municipal Council will come to collect your garbage if it's not within their covered area. You might have to turn to something more conventional i.e. dig a big hole, dump your stuff and covered it back....YES, that's one of the option of garbage disposal in village areas.

If you'd like to find out more on these two local authorities, here's their websites :

District and Land Office - http://www.ns.gov.my/daerah/pd/
Municipal Council - www.mppd.gov.my

The Ocean Wind Still Blowing

Dear My Kind Readers,

After 2 years of not updating this blog - I've moved overseas to continue my study (I've lost my password for this blog too...shhh!!!), now it's time for me to reproduce this informative blog and share it with you once again....

Years had past and there's lot of changes in Port Dickson that can be seen. It's situated on the 6th Mile (Batu 6), in between PD Hospital and Selesa Beach Resort (formerly known as Regency).

2) PD Water Festival - to be held on the 13th to 15th of April 2007. Location might be on beach side near the new Government District Complex at 1st Mile (Batu 1). I'll give you more details later when I get the exact news about it.

3) International Parachute Jumping - scheduled to be held somewhere near August....PD is where flights going to and from KLIA turns their way at a certain degree (turning point), it's rather interesting to see this event to be held here, quite risky, yet that's a challenge...

4) World Drum Festival - later by end of this year....it will be very noisy here in PD.

The Legend Water Chalets Port Dickson - the newest kid in town

Everyone has been asking me on this 'new kid in town.' The Legend Water Chalets is finally launched yesterday by the Deputy Tourism Minister - Dato' Donald Lim at around 4 p.m. yesterday. I've attended the ceremony which is actually a two-in-one occasion. The first one is to officially launch the completed hotel buildings and the second one is the ground-breaking ceremony for a continuation project adjacent to the current building.

The Legend Water Chalets is developed by KL Metro. The concept is also known as the Banyan Curve Water Homes. The chalet is given 5 star facilities provided by the same management that managed the Legend Hotel in Kuala Lumpur (the one situated near to PWTC and next to the Mall). Meaning the Legend Water Chalets is under the group as the Legend Hotel - The Legend Group. So, what will you expect from a 5 star facilities ? Nothing short of perfection.

Besides the chalets unit, they also have the apartment-type or what they called 'the Premium Tower Seaview' for those who're not keen to stay in chalet.

The uniqueness of the chalets is that all units are facilitate with their own private swimming pools and garden, beside the big swimming pool outside near the lobby area.

I've forgot to bring my camera yesterday, maybe next time I'll put up more photos on this new resort.

What's the Rate ?

The lowest rate for a deluxe (normal) chalet until 31st March 2007 is at RM 330 ++ on weekends and RM 390 ++ during peak season. Executive chalet is at RM 430++ / RM 520++ and Premium type is rated at RM 500++ / RM 650++. I suspect the rates will hike after promotion end. Meanwhile, Premium Tower Seaview shared similar rate as the Deluxe chalet.

BUT, if you would like to stay in those chalets that 'full-flex' facing the sea, you'll have to pay another extra RM 100.

Yesterday, I've booked a deluxe chalet facing the sea for a friend in Putrajaya.

*All the abovementioned rates are inclusive of breakfast for two.

How to Get There ?

If you're entering into Port Dickson from Sepang, Selangor - just turn right OR if you're using the Port Dickson highway (the one with the RM 2.90 tag...thanks to PLUS for not lowering the rate though complained by many) the best way is to exit at Lukut then moved on straight the main road. The first hotel in PD from this entrance that you'll see is Glory Beach Resort.... This Legend Water Chalets is situated next to this Glory Beach Resort.

Foods ?

I can't review on food served at this hotel because it is still new. But if you happened to stay there and want to get the best satay in PD, just turn left upon exiting to the main road, get passed 3 traffic lights and turn right, there you'll see a satay shop named 'SATAY MANAP' which remain as the best in PD for more than 20 years - more review on food next time. The downturn is that the shop is closed on Saturday.

Overall

For outsiders, the opening of the Legend Water Chalets add another attraction to visit and for stay in PD. But for the local people, it is an add-on as another 'public beach blocker' in the city - though you can't swim in the water there.

By looking at the room rates offered, it is cleared that the Legend Water Chalets meant to cater for certain class of visitors. If you're on family holiday with lots of family members, the neighbour - Glory Beach Resort is much more suitable and appropriate, but if you're on honeymoon or in small group and hoping for a more privacy holidays, then Legend Water Chalets should suit you.

To learn more on the Legend Water Chalets, you may go to their website here.

More review coming up...do bookmark this blog.

Welcome to Port Dickson

Selamat Datang (Welcome) to Port Dickson.
